Steve Gubbins is an award winning photographer who has won multiple awards for his family portraits and individual shots. All his portraits are of the highest quality and contain a special depth that only a true artist is able to capture.  In the last few years Steve has started to branch out into other mediums of art such as Ceramic Art and Abstract Photography, and he is already making a name for himself in both of these arenas as well.  His Abstract Photography is carefully constructed to be insightful and can be a real conversation starter.  If you have never owned a piece of Abstract photography, the Father’s Day offer could be a great opportunity to start.

Ceramic Art is made with materials that have been in use for thousands of years and has an incredibly long history.   Examples of ancient ceramic art have been found all over the world in China, Korea, Japan, the Mediterranean and many parts of the Americas. In many cases archaeologists have found complete pieces of statues, figurines or the more easily recognisable jugs and jars, but in many cases they find nothing more than a shard that offers a tempting insight into a time long ago.

Today, an artist who is working with ceramics will create a model and apply the same methods used thousands of years ago for embellishing and glazing a piece before it is fired in a kiln.  The firing process will harden and strengthen the work and will set the colour that was applied when the piece was glazed.

Steve Gubbins has been working with porcelain over the last few years and has been experimenting with different glazing methods.  He has slowly been building a reputation for producing some exquisite work.  All of his work is carefully hand-made and a some examples of his work can be seen on the Art section of his website.

Family Portraits

The Children’s Trust at Tadworth provides services that are specifically tailored to meet the needs of children who have profound and multiple learning disabilities. These services include rehabilitation, education, specialist nursing care, supporting families and providing short breaks for children and young people with complex needs. Steve Gubbins is a survivor of cancer and this has given him a very special interested in helping to raise funds for charity.  He has his own personal goal to help raise £200,000 for charity and has so far raised £160,000.  Steve will be donating more prizes at upcoming events, including his Family Portrait sessions, Make-over and Style session with a portrait and in addition to this some of his Abstract Photography.

There are four more charity events the Children’s Trust will be holding this year to raise much needed funds and Steve will be supporting them all, these events include:

• Race Night at Sandown Park – 18^th July 2012
• House of Commons Dinner – 5^th October 2012
• Construction Dinner – 9^th November 2012

Open Studios

Horsham Artists Open Studio is an annual event that gives the public an opportunity to visit artists at their home or studio and talk directly with them to gain an insight into how the creative inspiration for a work begins and how a piece has evolved over time.

This event is aimed as an inclusive event for all ages and all artistic tastes and is suitable for the whole family, so if you would like a day out with a difference, make sure you note the dates down in your diary now – 16/17^th and 23/24^th June.

Pet Portraits
